Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
We’re excited to be a part of the 15th celebration of @Sustrans #BigWalkAndWheel. In partnership with @SchwalbeUK it's the UK's largest inter-school walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling challenge. It aims to inspire hundreds of thousands of pupils to get active on the school run.
Our Year 3 children thoroughly enjoyed their Harvest celebrations with the infant school. They performed well for the assemblies both in the infant hall and junior hall. Thank you to all involved and to the parents/carers for their generosity.
We are delighted to announce we remain a 'Good' school, following our recent Ofsted inspection. Thank you to all staff, governors, parents/carers and of course our children, for all their hard work. Well done everybody; we are very proud of you.
The full inspection outcome report can be found here.
A sunny, enjoyable, fun lunchtime was had by all, as we celebrated the Coronation with a picnic, shared with the children and staff from the infant school.
In celebration of HRH King Charles III's upcoming Coronation, we will be holding a school picnic with the infant school, for the children at lunchtime on 4th May 2023.
For Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Leicestershire’s Lord Lieutenant held an art competition for the county’s children.
The children in school had great enjoyment in drawing and colouring their entries, which were then sent off to enter the competition.
School held their own internal judging competition on these entries and below are the winners from each class, who received a colouring pencil set as their prize:
Maple : Archie
Fir : Tilly
Willow : Alfie
Oak : Danya
Elm : Julia
Sycamore : Braygan
Cedar : Safa
Poplar : Ryan
You can imagine our delight when school was contacted to say one of our children had been chosen as a runner-up!
We kept this a secret until a special visitor came to school to present the certificate and art set prize in a recent assembly. In the words of our visitor, Leicestershire’s Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Professor Robert Allison CBE, there were literally hundreds and hundreds of entries. So, our HUGE congratulations go to Sienna. Well deserved. Well done.

Our kitchen ladies have been very busy this week, making enough cup-cakes for the whole school. They were very tasty! Thank you!
We have received a large donation of new books from an anonymous source, to whom Ms Beaumont would like to express our thanks:
Dear Book Witch
I am writing to say a huge thank you for the wonderful collection of books you kindly donated to Thorpe Acre Junior School. I know the children will enjoy reading them immensely.
Yours thankfully

During Children's Mental Health Week, the children and staff 'Dressed to Express' themselves. There were a variety of outfits and much fun was had by all. Take a look at the photos below:
As a build up to next summer's Olympics, starting on Monday 30th November 2020 we will embark on the ‘Travel to Tokyo’ challenge as a school. There is around a 6000 mile distance from here to Tokyo so to achieve this, each class will be going out 3 times a week for a 5 minute run. We are hoping to increase the length of time per run after Christmas. This will involve 2 x 5 minutes in the PE lessons and then once a week with the class teacher. The children will run around the netball court, with the teacher tallying up the number of lengths for the class.
Each class will be competing to reach different landmarks around Europe. A total will be taken at the end of the week for each class and this will be mapped in the hall. There will also be a school total per week, with the aim of reaching Tokyo by the end of 2021.
As a launch for the 'Travel to Tokyo' challenge, we will be having an ‘active shoe day’ on Monday 30th November, with everyone in school being asked to wear their trainers as part of the day.
