Helping at home and homework

Maths

The main task for children to do at home is times tables practice.  Year 6 children need to know all times tables and the related division facts.  'Hit The Button' is a great online game to practise all times tables.  Your child has been given a log in and password to Times Tables Rockstars.  Please encourage and remind them to log in and practise their high speed tables at home!

Reading

All children have two school reading books -one fiction and one non-fiction. Please encourage your child to read for 20 minutes every night either to themselves or whenever possible to an adult, as this really helps improve their reading speed, accuracy, understanding of the text and vocabulary.  Discussing the book with your child is also very important.

Please let us know when a book has been completed, so that your child can complete a quiz about the book on Accelerated Reader.

Spelling

Currently, we are trialing a new way of teaching spellings in Sycamore Class. This means that they will not be bringing spellings home with them. If you would like your child to have additional spelling work sent home, please contact Miss Barke.

PE

Tuesdays and Fridays are our PE sessions. Children should bring a change of shoes (trainers for outdoors and plimsolls for indoors), black shorts or jogging bottoms and a plain white or House T-shirt.

Celebrating Achievements

We are still celebrating the achievements of the children. Look out for the newsletter to find out who has achieved Star of the Week and the 3C award.
