Helping at home and homework

Maths

The main task for children to do at home is times tables practice.  Year 6 children need to know all times tables and the related division facts.  'Hit The Button' is a great online game to practise all times tables.  Your child has been given a log in and password to Times Tables Rockstars.  Please encourage and remind them to log in and practise their high speed tables at home!

Reading

All children have two school reading books -one fiction and one non-fiction. Please encourage your child to read for 20 minutes every night either to themselves or whenever possible to an adult, as this really helps improve their reading speed, accuracy, understanding of the text and vocabulary.  Discussing the book with your child is also very important.

Please let us know when a book has been completed, so that your child can complete a quiz about the book on Accelerated Reader.

Spelling

Children practise spellings as part of their Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling lessons. The children will bring home spellings based on the sounds and spelling patterns they have been learning. Spellings will be set on a Monday ready for the test on the Friday of the same week. We would be grateful if you could help your child to practise them.  A great question to ask your child is “What is the spelling rule for these words?”

PE

Mondays and Tuesdays are our PE sessions. Children should bring a change of shoes (trainers for outdoors and plimsolls for indoors), black shorts or jogging bottoms and a plain white or House T-shirt.

Celebrating Achievements

We are still celebrating the achievements of the children, although on a smaller scale in classrooms. Look out for the newsletter to find out who has achieved Star of the Week and the 3C award.
