Helping at home and homework

Maths Homework:

The main task for children to do at home is times tables practice.  Year 3 children need to know 2x, 5x, 10x (from Year 2) plus 3x, 4x and 8x tables.  'Hit The Button' is a great online game to practise all times tables.  Your child has been given a log in and password to Times Tables Rockstars.  Please encourage and remind them to log in and practise their high speed tables at home!

Reading:

All children have a school reading book.  Please encourage your child to read for 10 minutes every night either to themselves or whenever possible to an adult, as this really helps improve their reading speed, accuracy, understanding of the text and vocabulary.  Discussing the book with your child is also very important.

Please sign their diary after listening to them read and let us know when a book has been completed, so that your child can complete a quiz about the book on Accelerated Reader.

Spelling:

Children practise spellings on a daily basis as part of their Phonics learning and our RWI 'Let’s Get Spelling' programme.

The children will bring home spellings based on the sounds and spelling patterns they have been learning.

Spelling tests will take place on differing days due to the timetable, so please check the spelling list given for the test date.  We would be grateful if you could help your child to practise them.  A great question to ask your child is “What is the spelling rule for these words?”

PE:

Our Sports Coach will be in school on Tuesdays and Thursdays leading our PE sessions.  Children should bring a change of shoes (trainers for outdoors and plimsolls for indoors), black bottoms (shorts or jogging bottoms) and a plain white or House t-shirt.

Celebrating Achievements:

Remember that parents and carers are invited to our Achievement Assembly every Friday morning at 9am when children may receive merit certificates and award trophies.
