Supporting Learning at Home

In order to further your child's learning, please utilise the guidelines and information below.

Maths

The main task for children to complete at home is times tables practice. Year 5 and 6 children need to know all times tables and the related division facts.

Your child has been given a login and password for Times Tables Rock Stars. Please remind them to log in regularly.

Hit the Button is another great online game for practising all times tables.

Reading

Please encourage your child to read for 15 minutes at least three times a week, but ideally every night, either independently or, whenever possible, to an adult. This really helps to improve their reading speed, accuracy, understanding of the text and vocabulary. Discussing the book with your child is also very important.

When a child has completed a school library book, they will then be able to attempt a quiz about it on Accelerated Reader.

We also have access to an online library through a site called myON. Here, children can choose from hundreds of online books from all genres imaginable.

Spelling

Children practise spellings as part of their Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling lessons. There is a weekly test and we would be grateful if you could help your child to practise them.

A great way to do this is by putting the words into sentences. This enables them to understand how to use the word in context.

A great question to ask your child is:

“What is the spelling rule for these words?”

Physical Education

Mondays and Fridays are the days of our PE sessions.

Children should come to school in their PE kit: sensible trainers, black shorts or jogging bottoms and a plain white or House T-shirt.

As PE is mainly outside, please provide your child with a jumper. Also, please ensure your child is wearing appropriate footwear.

The wearing of earrings is not permitted for PE and they must be removed. If this is not possible, please send your child with some micropore tape so that they can tape their ears up themselves.

Celebrating Achievement

Every Friday morning, we have our school achievement assembly. There are three awards:

• Star of the Week
• 3C
• Pride in Presentation

You will be contacted by the school office if your child has been chosen.
