Our intention is that when children leave Thorpe Acre Junior School, they do so with the knowledge, understanding and emotions to be able to play an active role in today’s society while being equipped with the skills and strategies to lead healthy, safe and responsible lives. In an ever–changing world, it is important that they are aware, to an appropriate level, of different factors which will affect their world and that they learn how to deal with these. We want our children to have high aspirations, a belief in themselves and realise that anything is possible if they put their mind to it. We have a strong emphasis on building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health through the delivery of a programme of engaging and relevant RSHE (Relationship, Sex and Health) within a whole school approach.
We aim to continue to build an RSHE curriculum that is comprehensive across a range of topics so that children know more, remember more and understand more. As a result, children will know how to be safe and to understand and develop healthy relationships both now and in their future lives.
As a result of RSHE curriculum, we want our children to:
· Develop a confidence in sharing their own thoughts and opinions with others;
· Develop skills and attributes to keep themselves healthy and safe;
· Develop an attitude of a responsible global citizen;
· Show tolerance of others beliefs, religions and life choices;
· Build positive, respectful relationships with other people;
· Have a secure understanding of theirs and others’ emotions with regards to mental health and wellbeing;
· Understand the impact of peer-on-peer abuse on themselves and others; · Develop key skills such as resilience, self-confidence, empathy and cooperative behaviour.
