Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
We are delighted to announce that we, Thorpe Acre Junior School, have achieved the
School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2025/26 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
With a total of young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation,
competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year. A special thanks to everyone who has helped us over the year.
We look forward to applying once again in 2027!
A huge well done to our fantastic Year 3/4 performers in their rendition of 'The Tale of Three Trees'.
Their singing, acting and confidence on stage were incredible!
Thank you to all the parents and families who showed their support and also a shout-out to the staff who helped behind the scenes and made the costumes.
Thank you Rev Tim for our Easter assembly this morning.
TAJ turned red for Comic Relief this year. We had fun celebrating with every shade of red you can imagine, from bright jumpers to silly accessories.
Thank you to everyone who got involved and brought much colour, joy and laughter to our Friday.
The children had a wonderful time baking their pastry items at home for the staff to taste and choose the finalists.
A huge thank you to Mrs Shaw for coming in to bake with the finalists. They all did an amazing job and the results were so close.
The winner was announced during today's assembly - huge congratulations on your homity pie!
Poplar class welcomed some brand new classmates - the fish!
The children in the Resource Base worked carefully in preparing the tank and setting up a new cosy home for their finned friends.
Having fish in the class will bring so many benefits, from helping the children learn responsibility and routing, to supporting their communication, building calm moments, encouraging curiosity and giving them a wonderful daily sensory experience.
The children and staff provided us with amazing costumes today, with some so well disguised, we couldn't recognise them! Here are just a handful of them ...
Throughout the day:
- Miss Spencer periodically rang the bell, signalling for the children to stop what they were doing, to read their current reading book.
- we designed our very own bookmarks
- we shared stories, explored books and celebrated reading - what a great day!
We've had a busy time so far this year, with Mental Health Week, Number Day, Random Acts of Kindness Week, and an assembly by class Willow. This was all topped off with parents joining their children before school, to decorate and eat pancakes! Yum, Yum!
Fun was had throughout the Christmas season, from making Christingles and watching a pantomime, to having a movie night and fantastic Christmas lunch. Thank you to you all, for your continued support.
Plan B - an indoor Fun Run, due to the weather. The children undertook laps of the school, with a run in the hall!
